 Writing and thinking about my gratitudes each week has been so helpful for me to emphasize the positive things in our lives and keep me on an optimistic path in my life.

{Sunday's heartfelt tradition. A time to slow down, to reflect, to be grateful. A list of gratitudes.}

The highlights of my gratitudes for the week:

-The spectacular colors of the fall leaves that never ceases to amaze me! Although we have primarily coniferous forests around here we do have some trees that change colors in the fall: aspen, cottonwood, larch, some non-native maples and a lot of ground cover and shrubs that turn dramatic colors.

-Going on a walk with our little nugget one afternoon this week and collecting a pile of colorful fall leaves for her to play with.

 -An amazing day yesterday on opening day of big game rifle season. Although we did not harvest any animals we saw a bull and cow moose who then crossed the little dirt road in front of us, had a herd of elk run across the road in front of us as we were headed home (going directly onto private property where we could not hunt of course!) seeing some spectacular views, the dramatic fall colors, and getting to hike around the woods by myself which I didn't get to do much last year due to my post-postpartum healing.

-All the fermenting goodies on our counter: sauerkraut, yogurt and sourdough starter!

-Going out to the garden and digging up carrots anytime I want one. Since we didn't have much of a vegetable garden last year (a late snow killed most of it off) this brings me such joy every time I harvest and eat a sweet, delicious home grown carrot fresh from the garden!

-Selling several large items we had for sale on Craigslist. What a relief to have them sold and we now have the money to buy some other expensive things we need like more insulation.

-My mom reading this post about how we're living more simply and frugally and telling me that my great-grandmother would be proud of me. She was an amazing woman who lived a simple, frugal life influenced by living through the Great Depression. I have many fond memories of her, the stories she told me and the things she taught me. It warms my heart to think of how she has influenced the life I lead today.
-Our little nugget playing with her toy sewing kit while I work on my sewing projects. It reminds me of when I was little and my mom gave me her scrap fabric to play with while she sewed our clothes.

    1. It was quite the experience! They are such amazing, elusive creatures so I love any chance to see them but it is especially exciting when there is a whole herd running right in front of you!

    1. Our days are getting much colder and the ground will be freezing soon so I am going to have to harvest all of our carrots soon- but I keep putting it off because I just love going out to harvest a couple at a time!

  4. Annie,
    How cool to see the moose!

    A fresh carrot right out of the garden sounds so good!

    My Grandma inspires me too. Love hearing about your connection there.

    Love,
    Taryn
