{Sunday's
heartfelt tradition. A time to slow down, to reflect, to be grateful. A list of
gratitudes.}
Highlights of my gratitudes for the week:
-Going to an evening meeting with some other folks from the community garden to plan for our local market next year. This last year was the first season for the little market but I had so much fun being a vender and visiting with others in our community. We're excited to plan throughout the winter to make it even bigger and more successful next year.
-The elections being over! No more stacks of political junk mail arriving everyday, no more ads everywhere I look, no more people knocking on our door trying to convince us who to vote for and no more being inundated with phone calls about the elections!
-Clearing out the last of the carrots, beets and shallots from the
garden right before the big cold snap and snowstorm arrived so they
won't be frozen into the ground over winter.
-Setting some boundaries for myself about computer and blogging time. Another mama blogger inspired me this week with the statement "I blog about my life but blogging is NOT my life." It is so easy to get sucked into the computer sometimes so I'm working hard to be disciplined about my computer time because I want to LIVE my life and not sit in front of a computer for hours.
-A warm, cozy house on a cold, snowy, blustery day.
-Reading a good book I don't want to put down! I love being caught up in a good book and stealing any free moment I have throughout the day to read a few pages. I especially love snuggling up in bed under our warm down blanket and reading for a while before I go to sleep; such a wonderful way to end the day.
-Good conversation with my husband.
-A huge box overflowing with a variety of heirloom squash from my good friend who is an organic farmer. It will probably last us through the winter, what a wonderful gift!
-Our lazy dog Amos surprising us all and killing the brazen mouse that was running throughout the living room and kitchen for two evenings in a row. I have no problem harvesting animals and butchering, but when it comes to a little rodent I can actually see running in the house I completely freak out so I am SOOOO grateful to Amos!
-Learning from others and growing.
-Being able to get a "job" at the food co-op in town that I can work on from home to serve my member hours each month since working a shift in the store is impossible for me with our little nugget. I love shopping at the little food co-op so I am really grateful to have figured this out so I don't have to shop at the big natural food store which is so chaotic and impersonal.
-Restocking all the bird feeders and seeing so many different varieties of birds there throughout the day. I just love watching all the birds out the window with our little nugget, teaching her what types of birds they are and hearing her squeal with delight when watching them.
-Visiting with two friends I've known since college who both happened to randomly stop by our house on the same night. It was such a treat!
-Planning a girls weekend away to the hot springs with my good friend. We both are overdue for a little vacation so I can't wait to go!
-Finally listing some nursing covers in my Etsy shop that I had left over from vending at a local baby fair last month and selling one of them sold shortly after I listed it. I love when that happens!
-Working on making mason jar solar lanterns in the cozy warmth of the house (instead of the cold garage!) while drinking my homegrown/wild harvested tea and having prism rainbows all over the walls around me. It was such a peaceful time and place to work while our little nugget napped.
-Having one of those "it was meant to be" experiences when I found two old handmade child size hutches at my favorite second hand shop in town. They are so lovely with old hinges on the cabinet doors and old glass knobs on the drawers, you can tell someone put a lot of love into them. They had just come in as a donation and were not priced when they caught my eye and I knew I had to have them. I've been fretting about what to do for my vending stand in the big juried art fair I am in next month since I chose the smallest booth space when I applied so my usual table does not work. These hutches will be the perfect way to display my creations and then be used by our little nugget when I don't need them for vending.
-Getting a really good deal on some second hand insulation for our garage from a friend who owns a deconstruction business. He is taking apart an old building in town and reselling the materials so we were able to buy a ton of solid board insulation for a fraction of the cost of buying it new.
-The folks who buy my creations which supports our family. I feel so blessed when I get my monthly check in the mail from the local shop I consign in and get an email that I sold something on Etsy.
