{Sunday's
heartfelt tradition. A time to slow down, to reflect, to be grateful. A list of
gratitudes.}
Highlights of my gratitudes for the week:
-Rediscovering two old cookbooks my great grandmother gave me that are full of recipes from other women in their mountain community including several of my distant relatives. I actually got tears in my eyes when I turned a page and found my great aunt's fudge recipe that I thought was long forgotten. I also found a little hand written list of recipes to try that my great grandmother had stuck inside one of the cookbooks, what a treasure!
-Finally getting to see the buffalo on the National Bison Range! Every time we drove by in the last six months it was too warm for them to be on the south slope facing the road so they were always out of sight on the north face until now.
-A trip to the Amish market on Friday, the day when a local German woman brings her homemade German baked goods to sell. It was so much fun visiting with her and buying some goodies as an extra special treat for my husband whose family is from Germany.
-This week being over! It was an insanely busy week for my blog with a ton of gear reviews and co-hosting my first big giveaway hop, the Outdoor Gifts Giveaway Event.
-Being able to get back to writing blog posts about simple, natural living. After doing a bunch of product reviews and giveaways this last month, I've realized that is not the type of blogger I want to be on a regular basis. It feels good to have more direction for my blog!
-Waking up out of a dream about one of the teenagers that was on my caseload when I worked for child protective services ten years ago; the dream initially left me feeling unsettled but then I reached a sense of peace knowing I truly cared about the kids on my caseload, spent extra time with them and did the best I could for them in a broken system.
-Catching a spectacular early morning sunrise, what a wonderful way to start the day after so many gray, dreary days!
-Making homemade liquid laundry soap for the first time, what a fun family project!
-Suggesting to my husband we play Rummy after supper instead of working on projects around the house. It was so much fun and some much needed bonding time for us.

-A very special, treasured birthday gift from my parents: a box of beautiful silver jewelry that belonged to my aunt who passed away over the summer.
-A
morning where the sun was so intensely bright shining through the house
it hurt our eyes but cast bright rainbows from our prisms all over the
house. It was so awe inspiring for our little nugget and I since it was
gray and rainy the few days prior.

That is a beautiful picture of a sunrise. I got to see the sunrise this morning due to my teething baby. I wasn't thrilled to be up, but I am so very thankful for my baby.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me to be grateful!

I hope your baby has found some relief, our baby has been teething a lot the last few weeks and I know how tough that can be on baby and parents! Glad you at least got to see a lovely sunrise :)
Delete<3 those cookbooks, what treasure. those sunrise photos are lovely and yeah on the laundry soap. <3 i made the dry kind, which is so much fun as well. :)
ReplyDeleteWe might try the dry laundry soap next time, we started with the liquid (more of a gel actually) since we have very cold, hard well water which makes dissolving any soap a challenge!
DeleteThat sunrise is beautiful. It is good to have connections to our past through useful things, ones that we will use on a regular basis and reminds us of their original owners.
ReplyDeleteYes that is so true, every time I pick up my great grandmother's cookbooks I have such fond memories of her and the stories she told me growing up!
DeleteThank you for the lovely comment you left on my blog, I am sorry I have managed to delete it! I pressed the wrong button.
DeleteWhat a wonderful gift. I also make our own laundry soap- but powdered.
ReplyDeleteThat's great you make laundry soap too, I wish we had done it before now since it is so much fun and really so much more cost effective than store bought!
DeleteI love how you reflect on the week, and find what you are grateful for. It really does make you appreciate the little things in your life :)
ReplyDeleteIt really does make me appreciate life more! Now that I am in the habit of writing my gratitudes in my journal on a regular basis throughout the week I find myself focusing more on the positive things in our lives and truly appreciating what we have when it can be so easy to think about what we don't have.
DeleteThose sunrise pictures are so gentle and pretty.
ReplyDeleteWonderful list. :)
Thank you Taryn :) I wish we had sunrises like that everyday but unfortunately now that we're into our dreary winter months they are few and far between. Which I guess actually makes me appreciate a beautiful, colorful sunrise that much more!
