Throughout the Women in Hunting Series I've shared about my love of hunting here in Montana. Since the weather turns cool early in September, I'm often struggling with cold hands during archery and rifle hunting seasons. I've tried a variety of gloves and mittens but dislike the precious time it requires to take them off so I can properly handle my gun or bow. When I saw the Kifaru handwarmer, I knew I had to try it out. I was thrilled when Kifaru International generously sent me a handwarmer pouch with neck strap to review!
Kifaru makes the most durable outdoor gear we have ever purchased. To
say we love Kifaru is an understatement, especially for my husband it
is more like an obsession. We own several packs, a Doobie, Woobie,
packable tipi and our diaper bag is even a modified Kifaru bag (check
out the Kifaru forums to find out how other parents figured this out and shared their tips!)
Why
do we love Kifaru so much? They are an American company based in
Colorado and make all their gear in the United States. For the majority
of the items you purchase from Kifaru, there is a standard several week
time period before you receive your item since most orders are handmade to your specifications. Because they have some of the top gear creators working for them, Kifaru gear is very high quality. Buying an
item from Kifaru can be expensive but it is well worth the investment
because it will last a life time and you will never have to buy another
one.
The handwarmer pouch has a tough outer fabric and Rhinoskin liner for durability. The inside is insulated with the soft, warm, lightweight Climasheild Insulation.
The handwarmer pouch has an optional neck strap that can be adjusted to fit your desired length. The neck strap can also be removed by unclipping the buckle on either side.
The back of the handwarmer pouch has two Kifaru Lock and Load tabs that are compatible with Kifaru gear to easily attach the handwarmer to the back of your pack when not in use.
The pouch has a deep zippered pocket on the front to stow small items. I used it to stash chapstick, a granola bar, my hunting license, sunglasses and a knife.
I put the Kifaru Handwarmer Pouch to the test during rifle hunting season just as a cold front moved in. I loved that it was trim, lightweight and comfortable so I barely knew I
was wearing it when headed out for a hunt. I went out for a short solo hunt so I was able to pack all the basics I needed to take
along in the front zipper pouch of the handwarmer and did not need to
take my small pack along.
Since I could adjust it to the height I needed, I was able to comfortably keep my hands warm in the pouch but easily remove them when I spotted some deer and needed to quickly pick up my gun to look through the scope.
Since my hands get cold so easily during hunting season, I've always
struggled with how to keep them warm without having to waste precious
seconds trying to remove a pair of mittens when I need to get my gun up
when I see an animal. The handwarmer pouch did the trick, I was impressed! I also used it while riding in the truck instead of wearing mittens. I'm looking forward to using it for other outdoor adventures like ice fishing, spring/fall river trips, hiking, and camping.

What didn't I like? I really couldn't find anything I didn't like about the handwarmer. I would have loved to have one in camouflage but they were all out and would not have one in stock in time for me to review it before our Outdoor Gifts Giveaway Event. If you're purchasing one and have the time to wait, you can choose from a variety of natural colors including camouflage.
