DIY Blown-out Carhartt Button Waistband Repair

My husband is part owner of a solar business so is constantly up and down ladders, roofs, crawl spaces, and attics. Needless to say he is hard on his clothes so he is primarily a Carhartt guy and Carhartts are expensive.
So a few weeks ago when he told me he blew out the metal grommet button
on the front of his Carhartt shorts that still had a lot of life left in them, I knew I had to figure out a way to fix them.
He can’t wear them without the button because with all that up, down and climbing around the shorts wouldn’t stay up and a safety pin surely wasn’t durable enough to do the trick.
I couldn’t figure out how to reinstall the grommet button so I sat them in my sewing room for a little while to think about how to fix them. Then my “Ah ha!” moment came to me. I could snap fit them with my KamSnaps!
So I got out my snap pliers, bag of snaps, the blown out shorts and got to work. Since the grommet button that pulled out left a large gaping hole and it was literally hanging together by a thread at the top edge of the waistband
I did a quick hand sew stitch-up to sew the waistband back together.
I planned to install two snaps vertically on top of each other on the other side of the hole but I don’t have long prong snaps and the fabric in this area was extra thick so my normal size snaps didn’t hold.
I found one spot where I could fit one of my snaps with a good tight fit where the fabric was a little thinner.
I pulled and tugged on the waistband to make sure it would not easily pull out since these shorts will take a beating once they’re back in my husband’s work clothes rotation.
When my husband came home from work and I showed him the fixed up shorts, he was excited and impressed since he thought they were irreparable. The next day he wore them to work to test out my repair job. I was thrilled when he came home and told me the snap worked great!
In the matter of less than 15 minutes we had a quick and easy fix for the shorts and now they’re back in action instead of getting put in the upcycle pile!

Thanks Judy! The waistband on these were so torn up that my husband really thought they weren’t fixable. I was so excited I could figure out how to use my beloved KAMsnaps to fix them :)

So crafty!! I hate the thought of throwing clothes away if there’s only a minor defect. Which could explain why most of my clothes are holey. :)

Thanks April! We get a lot of holey clothes in this household so I’ve had to figure out creative ways to patch and fix them. My husband has to look presentable at the job site even though they do very hands on, physical work so his torn work clothes keep me busy mending!
