Being an avid outdoor adventuring family with a 14 month old toddler means we need high quality kid's gear to keep our little nugget warm and dry when we're outdoors. I was thrilled when I first saw the Ollie and Stella Children's Outfitters website and Ducksday gear specifically for outdoor adventuring kids. They sell the cutest kid's fleece jumpsuits, one piece rain suits, jackets and pants in a variety of funky colors and polka dot prints. I love that Ducksday gear is functional AND fun!
Ollie and Stella Outfitters is based out of Ann Arbor Michigan and was created to sell Ducksday gear in the United States since it previously was not sold anywhere in the US. Ducksday gear is actually a Belgian company so the sizes of Ducksday gear are not US sizing. Thankfully the Ollie and Stella website gives the size conversions so you can make sure you get the correct sizing for your little outdoor adventurer!
We were excited to have the opportunity to review a Ducksday fleece jumpsuit. As the weather turned cool in September and we headed out camping, I realized that all the fleece suits and buntings we had used for our little nugget last year were barely fitting her. They also all had enclosed feet which is fine for a baby but makes walking extremely difficult for a mobile toddler! We like to call our little nugget's Ducksday Fleece Jumpsuit her "Big Kid Suit" since it does not enclose her hands or feet.
All Ducksday Fleece Jumpsuits have knit trim and knee patches in a contrasting color plus a kite embroidered up the back for added cuteness!
The fleece jumpsuit fits our little nugget well with room to grow over the winter and looks quite adorable too!
We tested it out in the snow to see how warm and dry she stayed. The
snow stuck to the fleece on her backside where she was sitting but when I
took her inside, her clothes underneath were dry and she was warm. Ducksday has a line of fun colored rain suits that can be paired with the fleece suit to create a more waterproof snow suit.
We also tested it outside on a slightly chilly fall day with our little nugget in the backpack. Since it is not a bulky jumpsuit, she fit well in her backpack and the hood added a little extra warmth when a hat wasn't needed.
Here in Montana we have winter days that can be cold enough for us to bundle up in our down coats to go outside for a walk. On days like that, the Ducksday Fleece Jumpsuit would not be enough warmth but will be a great under layer to put a heavier outer suit over top.
What do we love about the Ducksday Fleece Jumpsuit?
- Super soft fleece, softer than any other baby/toddler fleece we've owned
- A zip up the leg for easy on/off and diaper changes
- Open hands and feet for exploring toddlers unlike a baby bunting with closed in hands and feet
- A hood for a little added neck and head warmth and protection from the cool air
- A very cute embroidered kite on the back
- Reinforced knee pads for added protection for crawlers like our little nugget
- It can be worn as is for a warm outer layer or worn underneath an outer shell
- Fun, bright, gender neutral colors
- Keeps the clothing layers underneath dry
- Non-pilling fleece
What didn't thrill us about the Ducksday Fleece Suit?
- The hood is cotton instead of fleece. We were outside several times when it began to drizzle so the hood became damp because it is cotton instead of fleece. If we had put on a waterproof outer shell it would have solved the issue but we weren't expecting the rain and were caught unprepared!
- Our little nugget is a thin toddler so the ankle cuff was wide and loose on her if she was wearing a low ankle shoe or moccasin. If she had on her thick, warm boots the ankle width of the suit actually fit over the top fine. This was only an issue for us on fall days where it was chilly enough to need an extra outer layer while wearing her regular shoes since it wasn't cold enough for thick, warm boots.
We love our Ducksday Fleece Jumpsuit and look forward to taking our little nugget on many more outdoor adventures in it throughout the next year! Check out the Ollie and Stella Children's Outfitters website by clicking here to purchase your own fun gear for your outdoor adventurer!

That is so cute! I love the kite on the back!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! I love baby clothes with zippers - they are pretty much all we buy, because our little boy is so wiggly they are about the only clothes we can get him in. I love this!
